Ms. Wong graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Social Sciences, majoring in Economics and Statistics. She was part of the pioneer batch of undergraduates in the Core Curriculum Programme (now merged with the University Scholars' Programme). A consistent high performer, Ms. Wong was placed on the Dean’s List for three out of six semesters and graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Economics.
A Passionate Advocate for Floorball
During her university days, Ms. Wong’s love for sports, particularly floorball, flourished. Together with a couple of hockey friends, she co-founded the NUS Floorball Team in her first year, laying the foundation for what has become one of the university's most vibrant sports communities. Her passion for the sport led her to represent Singapore in several World Floorball Championships, where she competed at the highest level on the international stage. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the promotion of floorball in NUS, including serving as Vice-Captain of the NUS Floorball Team, Ms. Wong was awarded the prestigious Gold Special Award by NUS. Her experiences as a national athlete have shaped her values of perseverance, teamwork, and excellence, which she now imparts to her students.
Dedicated Educator and Curriculum Innovator
In 2005, Ms. Wong joined the teaching profession after completing her Post-graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at the National Institute of Education (NIE). She began her career at National Junior College (NJC), where she crafted the Economics curriculum for the Integrated Programme (IP). She played a pioneering role in introducing Economics to younger IP students as early as Secondary 3, simplifying complex concepts to spark interest and build a strong foundation in the subject.
During her 10-year tenure at NJC, Ms. Wong worked closely with IP and non-IP students of diverse learning styles, preparing them for the GCE ‘A’ Level Examinations. She received numerous awards, including:
• NJC Outstanding Contribution Award for her significant contributions to the college in areas such as the Economics Department, Project Work, and the Guidance Curriculum Committee.
• Caring Teacher Award (2015), a recognition from the National Institute of Education and ExxonMobil Asia Pacific, based on nominations from her students for her dedication to their holistic development.
• 10 Years Long Service Award from NJC for her contributions to the institution.
Ms. Wong’s teaching philosophy revolves around simplifying difficult concepts, making learning enjoyable, and helping students gain confidence in their abilities. Her efforts have inspired countless students to master and excel in Economics.
Inspiring through Sports
As a former national athlete, Ms. Wong often draws on her sports journey to motivate her students to chase their dreams and overcome challenges. Her experiences in the highly competitive floorball arena have taught her the importance of discipline, resilience, and teamwork—values she strives to instill in her students.
Beyond the Classroom
Outside of work, Ms. Wong enjoys traveling to new destinations and experiencing different cultures with her children. She believes that exploration and learning go hand in hand, and these experiences enrich both her personal life and teaching journey.
